Park City makes a great family vacation destination
While Park City, Utah is a well known destination for ski buffs of all ages, it also has plenty other vacation fun to offer, no matter what time of year you visit. Located in the Wasatch Mountains, about 32 miles east of Salt Lake City and the airport, Park City was once a silver mining town and the downtown dates back to the late 1800s. It’s a great old-west environment that the entire family can enjoy. Park City locals will tell you that the best dining options around are right on Main Street with family-friendly fare as well as elegant fine dining. The downtown is also home to art galleries, shops and it’s even walking distance to one of the ski resorts.
Winter sports and recreational activities abound
Known for its terrific skiing, Park City visitors have a chance to experience the same winter sports environments that winter athletes competed upon at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Family members of all ages will want to take advantage of the outstanding outdoor winter fun at one of the three outstanding ski resorts, if not all of them. Winter activities are what you’d expect – if snow is required, then Park City is the perfect place to do it. Choose from skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing.
Summer-time vacation fun is plentiful.
Once the snow melts, Park City is still a terrific destination for the whole family. The mountains are stunning and vacationers can experience the view by taking a tram ride up and then hike, bike, ride a zip line or alpine slide back to the base. No matter what you do, the scenery is breathtaking with the mountain peaks, alpine lakes, and miles of beautiful trails to explore. You can even hike through two small canyons which are situated on the edge of Uinta National Forest.
Other warm-weather pastimes include golf, water sports, fishing, hiking, off-road ATV adventures, biking and horseback riding to name just a few. A highlight for many visitors is the opportunity to float over the magnificent mountains and quiet valleys in a hot air balloon, which is particularly enthralling at sun rise.
